Meet Shayla
An Award-Winning, Passionate Leader
Shayla Adams-Stafford is the CEO and Founder of AdaptiveX, a professional development and software company dedicated to advancing culturally responsive teaching and learning through the lens of racial equity. AdaptiveX works with educators and school leaders in over 20 school districts nationwide, establishing itself as a leader in promoting assessment equity. Shayla's innovative approach empowers K-12 teachers with adaptive testing tools, helping them better meet the diverse needs of their students. Her groundbreaking work has earned recognition in national pitch and hackathon competitions and led to AdaptiveX being featured on Nasdaq Trade Talks after Shayla became a finalist in the International Penn Milken Business Plan Competition.

Before launching her entrepreneurial career, Shayla served as a National Board Certified Teacher and instructional coach for over a decade, receiving accolades such as the Rubenstein Award for Excellence in Instructional Coachingfor her success in improving student test scores. The White House also recognized her achievements in Project-Based Learning, solidifying her reputation as a leading voice in education.

In addition to AdaptiveX, Shayla is the CEO and Founder of RemixEducation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has delivered positive youth development programming to over 200 students across Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. As part of her international leadership efforts, Shayla was selected for a prestigious U.S. State Department program to represent American nonprofit leaders in a global peace-building initiative with leaders from Armenia and Turkey.
In 2020, Shayla made history by winning a seat on the Prince George's County Board of Education, representing one of the largest school districts in the nation with over 130,000 students. During her tenure, she spearheaded a program to support the district’s most vulnerable students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative, which provided in-person instructional support, resulted in significant academic gains, with 57% of participants improving in Mathematics and 53% in ELA within its first year. This program, now expanded into a county-wide Saturday school, continues to address learning gaps in elementary literacy and ELA.
Shayla also championed a $10 million budget amendment for underperforming schools, directing resources toward tutoring initiatives and extended day programs that have benefited thousands of students.
